Boris en de Sjaak (2017)

A mobile arcade game written in Java that shares similarities with ‘classic’ mobile games like Subway Surfers and Temple Run: the player controls a sheep running away from the hungry dragon Boris, dodging obstacles through swipe gestures at increasingly high speeds. This game was made as a group project for Android App Development class during my Computer Science study.

The goal of this project was to make a mobile app that would help cure the boredom of visitors standing in line for the attractions of a fictional recreational park. We chose for a fast-paced multiplayer-compatible game for people aged 25 and under.

By playing the game, the player earns ducats, which can be traded in for one of many randomly generated usernames, or one free photo per day at an attraction’s photobooth.
Players can play with each other over a Wi-Fi network connection by scanning the QR-code on either phone. Additionally, by scanning an NFC-pole at the start of an attraction’s waiting line, the game’s graphical assets would be changed to match the theme of that attraction.

All of the game’s (hilarious) sound effects were recorded live by fellow group members and me. Sadly, the screen capturing software I used to record the demonstration video didn’t support audio recording…
